Securing Existence is Primary

July 1, 2009
Securing existence is primary, everything else comes after this.
Modern society functions behind a very thin veil and the majority takes little if any time considering survival. This lack of consideration is evidence of the success of Western Civilization and yet at the same time it sows the seeds for an inevitable failure. The masses today know little of life and death struggle of nations and so when confronted with issues that affect their survival they are indifferent and unable to see them for what they are. Concern can only come from experience of harsh reality or a deeper understanding of reality, a knowledge few seem to possess.
This veil that the modern multitude resides behind makes them susceptible to demagogues. Secure in their provided reality they fear little yet crave much and are moved by seemingly benevolent rhetoric. This is compounded by modern democracy, a type that empowers the entire extent of the populace, the capable, the incapable, the effectual and the ineffectual. Therefore the majority of the body politic must be won over for a leader to be elected, a thing that can only be done by pandering to the basest appetites. This impels a veritable surrender to rapaciousness and the creation of a quid pro quo type government, a distorted and bastardized form of democracy that functions in a diluted reality where survival moves further away from concern.
A bastardized form of democracy is vulnerable to the whim of the majority and if this majority is made up from men whose purpose is only trivial concerns then survival itself is forsaken and the end is nigh.
