The Altruistic Do-gooder

November 23, 2009

The altruistic do-gooder who is incapable of seeing his own plight is the most foolish among us. His unwillingness to focus on that which is staring him in the face while looking toward nebulous problems in the periphery are symptoms of psychosis and not dignified compassion.

Self-awareness can reveal undesired realities and as such it is easier to advocate for someone else than it is to correct the faults within.

This is as true for societies as it is for individuals.
